FRIENDS OF HOLLADAY'S CANAL TRAILS

How we handle your information

Last updated 3 September 2026

We are a resident group campaigning to reopen walking access along Holladay's canal corridors. We are not a business and we do not make money from anything on this site. This page says exactly what we collect and what we do with it, in plain language.

The short version. We collect your email if you join the list, and your name, street and your own written account if you use the letter tool. We use those to campaign for the trail and to show the City that real people at real addresses want it. We never sell your information. Email [email protected] and we will show you what we hold or delete it, within 30 days.

If you join the mailing list

We collect your name, email address, street address, and which sign or flyer brought you to us. We store it in our own database and do not pass it to any other company.

We use it to send you updates about the campaign and to work out which district our supporters live in, so we know who to ask you to contact. Any email we send will include a one click unsubscribe.

If you use the letter tool

When you send or copy a letter we keep your name, your street, and the sentence you wrote about what the walk meant to you. If you tick a pledge box we also keep that you would contribute money or time, and the rough amount if you chose one. A pledge is a stated intention only. We never ask for or store payment details. We also record which sign brought you here, whether you gave us permission to quote you, and the date.

We keep it for two reasons. First, real accounts from real addresses are the evidence we put in front of the Mayor and the Council, and an anonymous account is worth very little to them. Second, the tool sends letters that carry our name, so we check that nothing abusive goes out under it.

We do not keep the letter itself. Everything in it apart from your sentence is our own pre-written text, so there is nothing to store. We do not record what you typed while you were typing it, how long you took, or which fields you touched. We do not keep your IP address.

Your letter goes from your own email account to the City. We never see it, and we have no way of knowing whether you sent it.

Quoting you

We only publish your account if you ticked the box saying we may. If you did not tick it, your account is still used as evidence for the Council but it is not published. You can change your mind either way by emailing us.
